Kollupitiya market to be demolished to construct multi-storey building

The Kollupitiya market is to be demolished to construct a new, multi-storey building. The Prime Minister’s Office said that the new building will consist of trade stalls and apartments. The building plan was presented to Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa. According to the Prime Minister’s Office, a 39-storeyed building will be constructed to replace the old Kollupitiya market. South African variant of Covid-19 detected in Sri Lanka

The South African variant of the coronavirus has been detected in Sri Lanka. The detection was announced by Director of the Department of Immunology and Molecular Medicine of the Sri Jayewardenepura University, Dr. Chandima Jeewandara. He said the infected individual was detected while undergoing quarantine at a quarantine centre. The detected individual is reported to have returned from Tanzania recently.
