Joint opposition says no mandate for new Constitution

The joint opposition says the Government does not have a mandate for a new Constitution.

Joint opposition member, Professor G.L Peiris said that President Maithripala Sirisena never spoke of a new Constitution when he contested the 2015 Presidential election.

He said the joint opposition opposes the interim report submitted to Parliament on a new Constitution.

The former Foreign Minister also alleged that the Government was looking to draft a new Constitution to pacify the international community. (Colombo Gazette)

ETI depositors protest demanding withdrawal of deposits

Depositors of crisis-ridden, Edirisinghe Trust Investment Finance Ltd staged a protest in Colombo today demanding the withdrawal of their deposits. The protesters blocked the road at Ward Place during the protest, disrupting vehicular movement along the road. ETI has been in talks with a foreign company to sell some of its assets.
