Land was reportedly purchased in Sri Lanka allegedly through a corrupt Maldivian project deal.

The?Deputy Speaker of the Maldivian Parliament and Hulhuhenveyru Constituency MP Moosa Manik?alleged that many had benefited from the Addu City Equatorial Convention Center project, with many having had purchased land in Sri Lanka. However, he did not reveal who had benefited from this, the Maldivian media reported.

The Equatorial Convention Centre (ECC) is a convention centre located in Hithadhoo, Addu City of Maldives. It was specially build for the seventeenth SAARC summit which was held in November 2011 in Addu City and nearby Fuvahmulah island.

ECC was formally opened by then President of the Maldives Mohamed Nasheed on November 10, 2011.

Last year?the current Government of Maldives announced that the Equatorial Convention Centre in Hithadoo, Addu City will be converted into a 100-bed tertiary hospital. (Colombo Gazette)
