Meteor believed to have crashed in the southern seas

A large meteor is believed to have crashed in the southern seas last night (Wednesday).

Some residents in Colombo had seen a bright light in the sky while those in the South saw an object fall in the sea with a loud bang and bright light.

Chandana Jayaratne, Professor in the Physical Sciences Division at Colombo University said that the object could be a meteor.

Jayaratne said the suspected meteor may have entered the earth’s atmosphere with a loud bang and then broken into small pieces and crashed. (Colombo Gazette)
