Professor Gunaratne appointed Sri Lanka Medical Council Chairman

Professor Colvin Gunaratne was today appointed as the Chairman of the Sri Lanka Medical Council (SLMC).

He replaces Professor?Carlo Fonseka.

The Sri Lanka Medical Council is a statutory body established for the purpose of protecting health care seekers by ensuring the maintenance of academic and professional standards, discipline and ethical practice by health professionals who are registered with it.

As presently constituted the Council has representation from medical faculties of the state universities as well as from professionals in the state and private sector.

It is a body corporate having perpetual succession and a common seal. (Colombo Gazette)

Sri Lanka and Singapore sign FTA following bilateral discussions

The Government of Sri Lanka signed a Free Trade Agreement with Singapore at the Presidential Secretariat today. The Free Trade Agreement will boost the trade between the two countries as this would facilitate duty free access to selected goods and services of each other, the President’s office said.
