Law and Order Minister Sagala Ratnayake told Parliament today that Police transfers were being carried out in accordance to the existing policy.
The Minister said that annual transfers are implemented to ensure Police officers are not based at just one location but are able to experience situations in most parts of the country.
Ratnayake was responding to a question raised by Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake with regards to the transfer of Police officers from the Eastern Province.
Dissanayake said that the transfer of Police officers affects their families, including the education of their children.
Ratnayake said that a new policy is being worked on with regards to Police transfers and he hopes the new Policy will address any shortcomings in the current policy. (Colombo Gazette)
