President Maithripala Sirisena offered a tusker from Myanmar to the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic (Sri Dalanda Maligawa) in Kandy today.
The President who visited Kandy today, initially paid homage to the Sacred Tooth Relic and secured blessings.
Later, the President presented the Scroll which contains the offering of the tusker to the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic, to the Diyawadana Nilame Pradeep Nilanga Dela.
The tusker was donated to Sri Lanka by Myanmar in response to a request made by the President to Aung San Suu Kyi, when he attended the BRICS-BIMSTEC outreach summit held in Goa, India.
The tusker named “Pan Shwe Maung” is 24 year old and 8 feet high.
The tusker arrived from Myanmar on August 18, and was kept in a special enclosure within the premises of the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic. (Colombo Gazette)
