As the International Cricket season draws to a close this month, it is time to prepare the pitch for MCA ‘B’ Division 50 Over League Tournament for 2018. Commencing on 09 September 2017 at the MCA Grounds the tournament will continue at eight other selected venues with a participation of seven teams.
Unilever Fair & Lovely MEN will be the title sponsor for this tournament and the winning team will be awarded with the Fair & Lovely MEN Challenge Trophy. The official sponsorship cheque hand over took place during a recent media conference held at the Mercantile Cricket Association in the presence of the MCA President Niran Mahawatte, MCA General Secretary Nalin Wickremasinghe and Chairman of the Tournament Committee, Sujeewa de Silva. While representing Unilever Sri Lanka was Senior Brand Manager Unilever Face Care – Daminda Perera and Marketing Manager – Skin Care & Hair Care Nilushi Jayathilake.
“Men in modern era are geared to set new standards both on the field and off the field. On the field, they work hard to achieve their goals and do what it takes to get them there. This means they expose themselves more to sun, dust & pollution. Fair & Lovely MEN is a brand which comes in the men’s face care regime to take care of their faces from the aggressors such as sun, dust & pollution. With our affiliation to MCA B division league we would like to help emerging Sri Lankan cricketers to set new standards in the game and play the game to their true potential,” Senior Brand Manager Unilever Face Care – Daminda Perera noted.
The tournament will be conducted in two stages – League and Knockout. MCA appointed Match Referees will supervise the 24 matches. The participating teams John Keells ‘B’, Powertek Cement, Mobitel ‘A’, MAS Silueta ‘A’, Singer Sri Lanka ‘A’, Commercial Credit ‘B’ and Unilever Sri Lanka will face one another in 21 matches during the preliminaries from 09 September – 04 October.
The top four teams on the scoreboard will then qualify to play in the semi-finals which are scheduled to take place on 08 October and 11 October. The final match will take place on Saturday 14 October at the Mercantile Cricket Association Grounds.
Besides the traditional special awards; Best Batsman, Best Bowler, Man of the Final Match, Man of the Series Unilever has added the ‘Fair & Lovely MEN Man of the Week’ award.
“Unilever believes in ‘doing good while doing well’ and a factor of Unilever’s Sustainability Agenda is to help improve the lives of people. Cricket being a very integral part of Sri Lankans we recognised that our partnership with MCA enables us to solidify the Fair & Lovely MEN brand proposition. The Professional meeting Sport is a perfect ground to advocate grooming habits among men and the growing interest in men to use personal care products such as Facewashes and Face Creams makes it perfect sense for the brand’s association with Mercantile Cricket League Tournaments,” Unilever Sri Lanka Marketing Manager – Skin Care & Hair Care Nilushi Jayathilake noted.
