Cabinet approves proposal to pay rent for Uma Oya affected families

Cabinet has approved a proposal to pay rent to the families affected by the Uma Oya project.

The cabinet approved relief as per the recommendations of the cabinet subcommittee appointed for this purpose.

The proposal includes paying a monthly rent allowance from Rs. 10,000 to 25,000 to the families that have been evacuated, as per the recommendations of Government Assessor, for a maximum period of 06 months until they are being resettled.

The proposal also includes granting dry rations given to the affected families for a further six months. (Colombo Gazette)

SAITM chairman tells GMOA to get students back to lectures

Licence mandatory for coconut, palmyra tree toddy tapping

Obtaining a licence has been made mandatory for coconut tree and palmyra tree toddy tapping, the Ministry of Finance said today. Toddy tapping from coconut and palmyra trees has been brought under license with an amendment proposed to Section 15 of the Excise Ordinance (Chapter52) by the Ministry of Finance and Mass Media.
