Wijeyadasa comes under fire by UNP for comments

Justice Minister?Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe came under fire by the United National Party (UNP) today over comments he had allegedly made on the Hambantota port deal.

Deputy Minister Dr. Harsha de Silva said that the?UNP working group and Parliamentary group fiercely criticized Wijedasa Rajapaksa its meetings today.

However the Deputy Minister said that Rajapakshe had denied making any comments against the Hambantota port deal.

“He says he never said he said he will not look back until he cancels the Hambantota sale,”?Harsha de Silva tweeted. (Colombo Gazette)

Vote on Account to be presented to Parliament on 23 October

A Vote on Account on state expenditure for the first four months of 2020 will be presented to Parliament on 23 October. Cabinet has already approved a proposal made by Finance Minister Mangala Samaraweera to present a Vote of Account for the first four months of the year 2020 in Parliament. Since the Presidential polls is scheduled for 16 November 2019, the full Budget for the year 2020 will be postponed to early 2020.

UNP MP Shantha Abeysekara remanded

United National Party (UNP) Puttalam District Parliamentarian Shantha Abeysekara was today ordered to be remanded for violating his bail conditions. The MP was ordered to be remanded until October 17 by the Chilaw High Court. The MP had been accused of violating the bail conditions related to a case over an incident in 2004. In May 2004 the Chilaw police had raided his house and seized cartridges, a grenade and several firearms.

ACJU denies circulating message warning Muslims

The All Ceylon Jamiyyathul Ulama (ACJU) has denied claims it issued a warning message to Muslims in Sri Lanka. A statement by the ACJU said that a false message has been circulated saying it is a ?safety alert for Muslims? claiming that it is from the ACJU.
