Yoshitha appears before the CID to make a statement

Yoshitha Rajapaksa, son of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, appeared before the Police Criminal Investigations Department (CID) today to make a statement.

Rajapaksa was summoned to be questioned over an ongoing investigation.

Yoshitha Rajapaksa’s mother, former First Lady Shiranthi Rajapaksa also appeared before the CID yesterday to make a statement.

Shiranthi Rajapaksa was summoned before the CID to be questioned over the murder of rugger player Wasim Thajudeen.

Thajudeen died on May 17, 2012 with his car found crashed into a wall.

According to police reports at the time, the rugby player was driving home after attending a party when he lost control of the car and crashed into a wall on Park Road. The car had exploded instantly and burnt the victim.

However suspicions arose later after it was reported that there could have been a political connection in the death of Thajudeen. (Colombo Gazette)

Suspect arrested for promoting jihadist ideology in Sri Lanka

A suspect has been arrested for promoting the jihadist ideology in Sri Lanka, the Police said. Police Spokesman, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Ajith Rohana said that the suspect is the former President of the Jamaat-e-Islami group. South African variant of Covid-19 detected in Sri Lanka

The South African variant of the coronavirus has been detected in Sri Lanka. The detection was announced by Director of the Department of Immunology and Molecular Medicine of the Sri Jayewardenepura University, Dr. Chandima Jeewandara.
