Construction of large scale wind park to begin first quarter of 2019

The construction of?Sri Lanka’s first large scale wind park will commence in the first quarter of 2019, it was announced today. After introducing wind energy to Sri Lanka with a demonstration project 19 years ago, Danish manufacturer Vestas returns to the country and will install the country?s first large scale wind park, the 104 MW Mannar Wind Power Project,?Vestas said in a statement. The order includes Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) and is placed by Ceylon Electricity Board

Heroin found in Dehiwala largest in Sri Lankan history

The heroin haul found in Dehiwala today has been recorded as the largest heroin haul found in Sri Lankan history. The Police said that 278 kg of heroin had been found in the house in Dehiwala. The heroin is said to be worth around Rs. 3,336 million. Earlier, two Bangladeshi nationals were arrested in the house with 200 kg of heroin. However, further investigations led to the recovery of more heroin in the house. (Colombo Gazette)
