Army contradicts Police claims on North roadblocks

The Army today insisted that there was no move to block voters in the North by placing new roadblocks. Army sources in Jaffna denied reports that Police intervention resulted in Army roadblocks being removed in parts of the North. The Army said that no new roadblocks were placed in Jaffna and that the roadblocks over which some concerns were raised were placed after the Easter Sunday attacks. Sri Lankan envoy holds talks with European Court of Justice

Ambassador Grace Asirwatham met with the President (Chief Justice) of the European Court of Justice (ECJ) Koen Lenaerts, KC, at the European Court of Justice in Luxembourg. The ECJ is the highest European Court. The European Courts of Justice are all based in Luxembourg. Prime Minister appeals for peaceful election

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe today appealed for the conduct of a peaceful election tomorrow (16 November). In a special statement today, the Prime Minister said that steps have been taken to ensure maximum security during the election. He appealed to the public to ensure there is an environment to conduct a free and fair election. The Prime Minister also appealed to the public to ensure the post election environment is peaceful.
