Two boys abducted, assaulted and freed

Two young boys were abducted in Puttalam last night and were later freed after being assaulted. According to the police the two brothers, aged 17 and 18, were abducted by a group travelling in a jeep. The father of the two children had lodged a complaint with the police over the abduction. Some two hours after the abduction the two boys were dropped off on the road in Puttalam. The police said that both boys had been severely assaulted before being set free. India summons Lankan envoy on fishermen issue

India summoned the Sri Lankan Deputy High Commissioner in New Delhi Mahishini Colonne?today to discuss the arrest of a group of Indian fishermen, Indian External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Syed Akbaruddin told the Colombo Gazette. The Indian government has urged the Sri Lankan authorities to treat the fishermen humanely and free them as soon as possible.
