Unused boats in fishing harbours to be removed or destroyed

Unused boats in fishing harbours are to be removed or destroyed, Fisheries Minister Mahinda Amaraweera said today.

He said that there are several unused boats parked in some fisheries harbours including those seized from people who attempted to reach Australia by boat to seek asylum.

The Minister said that legal action on some of the boats had been completed and so they will be either removed or destroyed.

He said that if an owner of a boat does not come forward and claim the boat then it will be destroyed.

The Minister said that these steps will need to be taken as part of measures to stop the spread of dengue.

There is a fear unused boats could be breeding grounds for mosquitoes. (Colombo Gazette)

Galle Face protesters begin to use digital mapping

The protesters at Galle Face began to use digital mapping today by displaying images on the walls of the Presidential Secretariat.
