UN Chief’s political officer discusses progress in Sri Lanka

UN Under Secretary-General for Political Affairs Jeffrey Feltman, began a visit to Sri Lanka today?to take stock of the progress in the country.

The UN office in Colombo said that from 19-21 July, Feltman will be in Sri Lanka to follow-up on his 2015 visit, to take stock of progress in the country and engage national stakeholders on the peacebuilding process.

As part of his visit Feltman met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs Ravi Karunanayake, at the Ministry today.

He also met with the Governor of the Eastern Province, Rohita Bogollagama in Trincomalee

During his visit, Feltman will meet with government officials and leadership of the Tamil National Alliance.?(Colombo Gazette)

IMF loan, stability of the Rupee to help reduce electricity tariffs

The loan received from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the stability of the Sri Lankan Rupee will help reduce electricity tariffs. State Minister of Power and Energy Indika Anuruddha Herath said that market conditions forced the Government to increase tariffs.
