Opposition accuses Police spokesman of doing politics

The joint opposition today accused Police spokesman SSP Ruwan Gunasekara of doing politics.

Opposition Parliamentarian Udaya Gammanpila said that Gunasekara had yesterday made a political statement with regards to investigations being carried out by the former and current Government.

Gunasekara had reportedly said that after the current Government took office some investigations were seeing progress.

Gammanpila said that Gunasekara had no right to make a political statement as a Police officer.

The opposition member said that by making a political statement Gunasekara showed the true colours hidden behind his uniform.

Gammanpila also said that he is prepared to face Gunasekara for a debate over the arrest of former Navy spokesman DKP Dassanayake.

The opposition Parliamentarian said Dassanayake’s arrest was not justifiable despite a statement made by Gunasekara to the contrary. (Colombo Gazette)
