New campaign launched to contain spread of dengue

A new campaign was launched by the Government to contain the spread of dengue, the Ministry of Health said today.

The national campaign will see the Police, military and public health officials inspecting all areas to identify dengue mosquito breeding grounds.

The number of people affected by dengue has risen to 90,000, the Health Ministry said.

Health Minister Dr. Rajitha Senaratne said that the government alone cannot fight the spread of dengue and public assistance was required.

He said the government will also implement proposals by the World Health Organisation (WHO) in the fight against dengue. (Colombo Gazette)

Information provided by the Judicial Medical Officer (JMO) of the Palai hospital has led to the discovery of weapons, ammunition and explosives in Palai. The Terrorist Investigations Division (TID) recovered?an AK-47 firearm, 2 magazines, 120 rounds of live ammunition, 11 hand grenades and 10kg of the PE 10 explosive from the Karandiya area in Palai.
