Sri Lanka today condemned an attack on Hindu pilgrims in Kashmir in which seven people were killed.
Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe tweeted saying the attack on pilgrims in Amarnath Yatris was devastating.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the families affected and our friends in India,” he said.
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mahishini Colonne said Sri Lanka condemns in the strongest terms, the attack on peaceful pilgrims in Amarnath Yatris.
“Our hearts are with those affected,” she tweeted.
Six women and one man were killed in Monday evening’s attack in the southern district of Anantnag. It was the deadliest assault on Hindu pilgrims in the majority-Muslim region since 2000, and comes amid heightened religious tensions across northern India and another summer of violence in Kashmir.
