Cabinet approves proposal to import sheep for farming

Cabinet has approved a proposal to import sheep to improve farming, the Government said today.

Sheep farming is done at farms of the National Livestock Development Board (NLDB) and private farms in the Northern and North-western provinces.

However the Government noted that there has not been any improvement in the industry since 1980.

As a result a proposal made by P. Harrison, Minister of Rural Economic Affairs, to import 25 male sheep and 100 female sheep using Rs. 10 million which is allocated for 2017 following the proper procurement procedure, was approved by the cabinet of Ministers. (Colombo Gazette)

Police, military, STF deployed to churches for Easter

The Police, military and the Special Task Force (STF) have been deployed to churches for Easter Sunday. Modi says NDA ensured release of fishermen detained by Sri Lanka

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi says his National Democratic Alliance (NDA) Government ensured the release of fishermen detained by Sri Lanka. He said that after the NDA came to power there has not been any fisherman in the custody of Sri Lanka.
