Five arrested over theft of nearly Rs. 8 million in Ragama

Five suspects have been arrested over the theft of nearly Rs 8 million in Ragama, the Police said today.

The Police said that among those arrested was the main suspect.

The money belonging to a private company was stolen last month by armed men.

The gunmen in a car had blocked a van taking the money from one office to another.

The gunmen had also opened fire on the van and later stole the money.

Police spokesman Ruwan Gunasekera said that the suspects were arrested today following a successful investigation.

Among those arrested is an employee of the private company and two Army deserters.

The Police also seized two T-56 weapons, ammunition and the vehicle used for the crime and also part of the stolen money.?(Colombo Gazette)
