Army begins special operation in war against dengue

A special week-long dengue prevention programme, in addition to the ongoing projects of the Army around the island, was launched near the Sugathadasa Stadium in Colombo yesterday, the Army media unit said today.

The Army said that 25 separate teams made up of  200 Army personnel, 25 policemen and 25 Public Health Inspectors joined hands together with the intention of identifying and eradicating the epidemic  in worst-affected Mattakkuliya area which has a dense population.

The 25 teams will move into the worst-affected areas in and around Colombo and search for dengue breeding grounds and other vulnerable areas.

The new initiative launched by the Security Forces Headquarters-West (SFHQ-West) following coordination done by Major General Sudantha Ranasinghe on the instructions of the Commander of the Army will continue till next Saturday (8). (Colombo Gazette)
