PM notes importance of Ramazan celebrated by Muslims

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, in a message to mark Ramazan said that the Ramazan Festival is celebrated by Muslims with a deep sense of fellowship and co-existence in countries throughout the world.

Ramazan ends a time of fasting undertaken as a period of reflection and religious observances, marked with alms giving and sharing with others.

Wickremesinghe said the fasting associated with Ramazan encourages mental and physical commitment to the faith and also enables families and communities to connect with one another and renew values sacred to Islam.

“Eid Mubarak to all Muslims in Sri Lanka and throughout the world,” he said.

Flood alert issued as water levels rise

More Navy officers and Sri Lankan returnees contract coronavirus

More Navy officers and Sri Lankan returnees from the Middle East have been detected today with the coronavirus. The total number of coronavirus confirmed patients detected as of 9pm today (Wednesday) was 134. Of the 134, the Health Ministry said that 53 were Navy officers and 81 were returnees from overseas. All were at quarantine centers when tests showed that they had contracted the virus. (Colombo Gazette)

Maximum Retail Price imposed on rice revised

The Maximum Retail Price (MRP) on rice sold in the market has been revised, the Government said today. A MRP was imposed on rice in April and it was revised today. The new MRP is Rs 96 for a kilo of Nadu, Rs 98 for a kilo of Samba and Rs 125 for a kilo of Keeri Samba. (Colombo Gazette)
