The number of Indian fishing boats entering Sri Lankan waters illegally has seen a drop, Fisheries Minister Mahinda Amaraweera said.
He said that India has taken the issue of Indian fishermen poaching in Sri Lankan waters seriously.
Amaraweera told Parliament tough measures have been taken by Sri Lanka to stop poaching by Indians in Sri Lankan waters.
The Minister noted that as part of the tough measures, Indian fishing boats seized by the Navy in recent times had not been released.
He said that India and Sri Lanka have had several rounds of talks to resolve the fishing issue and the matter is being given top priority by Sri Lanka. (Colombo Gazette)
