Uproar in Parliament over spread of dengue

Parliament sittings were temporarily suspended today following a heated exchange during the proceedings.

The heated exchange took place when the joint opposition raised a question over the spread of dengue in the country.

Joint opposition member Dinesh Gunawardena said that a serious situation had arisen with the spread of dengue.

Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake questioned the absence of Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and Health Minister Dr. Rajitha Senaratne in Parliament today to respond to the concerns.

The Government said an urgent meeting was being held today to address the crisis.

Dissanayake however questioned if the Government was meeting only now to discuss the crisis.
