Disaster Management Minister’s absence defended

The Government today defended the absence of Disaster Management Minister Anura Priyadharshana Yapa in Sri Lanka at a time when the country was facing a major natural disaster.

Cabinet spokesman Dr. Rajitha Senaratne said that Yapa was in Mexico for an international summit which he had departed for before the disaster.

Yapa is due back in Sri Lanka today (Tuesday).

Meanwhile Senaratne said that Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe was in the US to obtain urgent medical attention. (Colombo Gazette)
