MR says no new casino license

President Mahinda Rajapaksa says new licenses will not be given to open casinos in the country. Speaking to media heads at a breakfast meetings in Colombo today the President insisted that since he came to power licenses have not been issued for new casinos, bars or betting centers. Arthur C Clarke’s DNA in space

NASA is planning to send the DNA of famed British science fiction writer Sir Arthur C Clarke into space – five years after his death,?the Press Trust of India reported. The author of the novel ‘2001: A Space Odyssey’ died in 2008 in Sri Lanka, and now NASA scientists have announced plans to send his DNA into orbit around the Sun in 2014 aboard the Sunjammer, a solar-powered spacecraft which gets its name from the writings of Clarke. LTTE supporters disrupt match

A group of LTTE supporters disrupted the ICC Champions Trophy match between Sri Lanka and India at Cardiff in England today. The first disruption took place when a man ran on the field with a poster in his hand and an LTTE flag on his shoulder. Several minutes later five men ran on the field waving LTTE flags and disrupting play before security officers arrested the men. The incident took place despite assurances of tight security for the Sri Lankan cricket team at Cardiff. (Colombo Gazette)
