Man rescued from collapsed Wellawatta building dies

A man rescued from the site where a building collapsed in Wellawatta today, succumbed to his injuries in hospital.

At least 20?people were injured when a building in Wellawatta collapsed today, the police said.

The injured were admitted to the Kalubowila hospital and Colombo National hospital.

The five storied building which was partly under construction is located near the Savoy cinema in?Wellawatta.

The Army and Air Force was sent to the area to assist the fire brigade and police in the rescue operations.

Several vehicles were also damaged in the incident. (Colombo Gazette)

President Mahinda Rajapaksa has sought an explanation from Dissaster Management Minister Mahinda Amaraweera on how the public was informed about the impending storm on Friday night, the government information department said today.
