Slave Island salon manager killed, five arrested and remanded

The manager of a salon in Slave Island was clubbed to death and five suspects have been arrested and remanded over the incident. The Police said that the manager of the salon was murdered after five young men had made remarks at a woman he was with. The manager had got into an argument with the young men for passing remarks at the woman after which the men had clubbed him to death. The youth, aged between 17-24, had fled the scene but were arrested by the Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF) personnel.

Mahinda formally appointed SLPP leader

Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa was today formally appointed as the leader of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP). SLPP Chairman, Professor G.L Peiris announced the appointed of Rajapaksa as the leader of the SLPP at the SLPP convention held in Colombo today.
