Sri Lanka offers to repatriate 10 Indian prisoners

Sri Lanka has offered to repatriate 10 Indian prisoners, currently serving their sentence in the island nation’s jails, to India to complete their remaining prison term. This was conveyed by Colombo to New Delhi through diplomatic channels saying it wanted to send the prisoners back as part of a pact signed by Sri Lanka and India on exchange of prisoners in 2010, official sources said. Most of the Indian prisoners in Sri Lanka are from Tamil Nadu and Kerala. The Home Ministry is now in touch

Lankan men sent home from Christmas Island

The Gillard government (in Australia) has returned a group of 26 Sri Lankan men to Sri Lanka on a charter flight that left from Christmas Island last night. Six killed, 69,659 people displaced

The Disaster Management Center said that?six people have been killed and 69,659 others displaced following the heavy rain and strong winds as of today. A DMC spokesman said that several roads in and around Colombo were also blocked by floods and uprooted trees while train services were also affected.
