Kalutara prison commissioner transferred over shooting

Minister of Prison Reforms, Rehabilitation, Resettlement and Hindu Religious Affairs D.M. Swaminathan has given instructions to the Secretary to the Ministry of Prison Reforms, Rehabilitation, Resettlement and Hindu Religious Affairs, W.M.P.G. Wickramasinghe to transfer the Kalutara prison commissioner immediately and hold an independent inquiry on?the recent prison bus shooting in Kalutara and several other matters.

Further, the Minister stated that, the following facts were taken into consideration to make that decision.

Based on the information provided by the Three Member Committee regarding the shooting incident at 27^th February, 2017 at Kalutara.
The media publicity of the assault which occurred inside the prison?on a suspect involved in the murder of ?Samayan?.
The discovery?of a mobile telephone and tobacco inside cabbage supplied to the Kalutara prison kitchen.

The Minister further stated that, if the prison officers are?found guilty they will be punished without considering their status. (Colombo Gazette)

Kolonnawa Post Office employees infected
