Envoy briefs Prince on political developments in Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka’s Ambassador to?France with concurrent accreditation to the Principality of Monaco, Tilak Ranaviraja, briefed?Prince Albert II on the political developments in Sri Lanka.

Ranaviraja?presented his letter of Credence to Prince Albert II? of the Principality of Monaco at Palais Princier de Monaco.? He was accompanied to the credentials ceremony by Marc Pauli.

During a?private discussion that ensued, Ambassador Ranaviraja extended greetings of the President of Sri Lanka to Prince Albert II and apprised him of the progress made in the political and economic development process of the country and the prospects of receiving GSP + concessions from the EU which would place Sri Lanka in an added advantage to boost exports.

Garbage truck accident kills 1 injures 4

A parked garbage truck accidentally got released from its brakes and rammed into a house killing one person and injuring four others in Kotahena this morning. The police said that the driver of the truck had parked the vehicle and went for tea and at that time the truck had gone on reverse and slammed into a house 50 meters away. An inmate of the house was killed in the accident while four others, including two women were also injured. The driver of the garbage truck has been arrested.

Railway department suspects foul play

The Railway Department says it suspects sabotage led to the footboard of a train giving way in Veyangoda on Saturday which killed a youth. The General Manager of the Railway Department B.A.T Ariyaratne told reporters this afternoon that a three member committee has been appointed to investigate the incident.
