EU Foreign and Trade Ministers approve GSP for Sri Lanka

The European Union (EU) Foreign and Trade Ministers Council has approved GSP plus for Sri Lanka, the Government information department said.

This completes all three procedural requirements for Sri Lanka to receive GSP plus status. The European Commission and Parliament approved the application earlier.

The official notification on the entry into force will be finalized next week, the Government information department said.

Last month a?motion?at the EU Parliament to deny Sri Lanka the GSP plus trade concession was defeated.

Sri Lanka?won the vote in Brussels with?436 members voting against the motion, 119 in favor and 22 abstentions.?(Colombo Gazette)
