SLFP will not remain married to the UNP forever

The Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) says it will not remain married to the United National Party (UNP) forever.

SLFP Treasurer S.B. Dissanayake said that remaining together forever is not good for the SLFP, UNP or the country.

“Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe is aware of this and so is President Maithripala Sirisena,” he said.

Speaking to reporters in Kandy,?Dissanayake said that the SLFP does not agree with some policies of the UNP and the UNP does not agree with some policies of the SLFP.

“The Government will be in a tight situation if that continues. We are already in a tight situation in some areas and that is not good for the country,” he said.

Dissanayake said the UNP and the SLFP joined forces for a purpose and that purpose has been met to a great extent.

He says while the current Government is stable, both main political parties in the Government will look to contest separately in the future. (Colombo Gazette)
