Secretary of MP accused of demanding sexual bribe

A Secretary of a Member of Parliament (MP) in the North has been accused of demanding sexual bribes from women in order to get their work done.

Social media was abuzz with the purported Facebook conversation between the secretary of the Tamil National Alliance MP and a woman.

The woman in the conversation asks for a letter from the secretary to give her husband.
The secretary says he is prepared to obtain the letter from the MP provided she meets him in a hotel room for a night.

The woman then says that she is not prepared to go to that level to obtain the letter.
The secretary says he will give the letter only if he meets her in the room and that even her husband will not hear about it.

The secretary has however denied that such a conversation took place. (Colombo Gazette)

No move to enforce 12-hour power cuts

Cabinet has been informed that there is no move to enforce 12-hour power cuts, despite the fuel crisis, Cabinet Spokesman Bandula Gunawardena said today. He said that Power and Energy Minister Kanchana Wijesekera had informed the Cabinet yesterday that the authorities will manage the fuel stocks and ensure the power cuts are limited to around 3 hours.
