The embassy of France in Sri Lanka and Maldives expressed its shock at the collapse of the garbage dump on the 14th of April in Meethotamulla which claimed the lives of more than 30 people. Seven Sri Lankan fishermen released by Tamil Nadu court

A court in India on Wednesday ordered the release of seven Sri Lankan fishermen, arrested on April 6 last for allegedly straying into Indian territorial waters, the Press Trust of India reported. Chief Judicial Magistrate-in-Charge Inba Karthick passed the order following a communique from the Tamil Nadu government, Q branch police said. British Minister Alok Sharma cancels Sri Lanka visit

British Minister for Asia and the Pacific at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, Alok Sharma has cancelled his visit to Sri Lanka this week. The British High Commission in Colombo said the visit was cancelled after the British Prime Minister announced a snap election to be held in June. Apart from holding meetings with the Government, Sharma was to speak at the Lakshman Kadirgamar Institute on April 21 on challenges in a post Brexit world.
