Grace period extended to renew vehicle licence

The Government has extended the grace period announced to renew vehicle revenue licenses in the Western Province. The Government Information Department said the grace period has been extended till 31 July. The grace period will be entitled for vehicle revenue licences that expire between 13 March to 31 July. The Government Information Department added that a fine will not be imposed on the vehicle revenue licences that expire during the above mentioned time period. (Colombo Gazette)

Heroin worth over Rs. 2 billion seized

The Police Narcotics Bureau seized 225 Kg of heroin during a raid conducted in Ja-Ela today. The seized contraband is valued at over Rs. 2.25 billion. Four suspects were arrested for the possession of the narcotics, while two vehicles had also been seized. The suspects were arrested while preparing to transport the drugs concealed in bags containing rice. (Colombo Gazette)

All areas isolated owing to COVID-19 reopened

Bandaranayake Mawatha in Colombo -12 and Suduwella in Ja-Ela which were declared as isolation areas due to the COVID-19 outbreak were reopened today. Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva said with the reopening of these two areas, all isolated areas have been reopened in the country.
