Dinesh suspended from House after unruly behaviour

Parliamentarian Dinesh Gunawardena was removed from the House today over poor behaviour.

Parliament later voted to suspend him from sittings for one week.

Speaker Karu Jayasuriya issued the order to remove Gunawardena as he continued to disrupt Parliament proceedings.

Gunawardena was protesting over the decision taken not to recognize the National Freedom Front as a separate political party in Parliament.

The Speaker continuously ordered Gunawardena to sit and warned him prior to ordering his removal from the House under the standing orders of Parliament.

A vote was later taken on suspending him from sittings for one week and 85 members voted for it and 22 members against. (Colombo Gazette)
