Severe weather warning issued for sea areas

A severe weather warning has been issued for sea areas for the next 48 hours from 2pm today, the Disaster Management Center.

Due to active cloudiness in the deep and shallow sea areas off the coast extending from Trincomalee to Colombo via Batticaloa, Pottuvil, Hambantota and Matara, a sudden roughness of the sea areas with strong winds can be expected.

Navel and fishing communities have been urged to be vigilant.

Meanwhile, the department of meteorology said that the prevailing showery conditions are expected to further enhance during next few days (particularly during 1st and 2nd of March).

Cloudy skies along with showers or thundershowers can be expected at times over most parts of the country.

Fairly heavy showers (about 75mm) are also likely at some places, especially in the Eastern, Uva, Central, Sabaragamuwa and Southern provinces.

There may be temporary localized strong winds during thundershowers. (Colombo Gazette)
