Over 1800 illegal constructions identified in Colombo

Over 1800 illegal constructions have been identified in Colombo, Megapolis and Western Region Development Minister Champika Ranawaka said.

He says the Urban Development Authority (UDA) will take steps to file action against such illegal constructions in Colombo and other parts of the country.

Ranawaka said that illegal constructions have resulted in huge traffic congestion in some parts of the city.

“Within the next 6 months we will have a plan for every city in every province,” he said.

He said that once the local government elections are held his Ministry will have talks with the newly elected officials and discuss the plans for the respective cities.

Ranawaka denied claims that the UDA has taken over the powers of the provincial councils.

He insisted that the UDA is operating within its powers and is answerable to Parliament. (Colombo Gazette)

Court summons Mervyn Silva over abductions
