Joint opposition Parliamentarian Bandula Gunawardena said that Karunanayake has no legal right to impose a ceiling price on any item.
He said that the recent ceiling price imposed on rice by the Finance Ministry will affect small scale traders.
Gunawardena said that traders are in a dilemma on how to sell rice at a lower cost when it was purchased for a higher rate.
A maximum retail price for rice was announced with effect from February 6.
With the announcement the maximum retail price of Nadu and Raw (Kekulu) will be Rs. 70 and Samba Rs. 80 per kilo. (Colombo Gazette)
