Journalists accused of plotting to kill Mahind acquitted

Three journalists who were accused of plotting to kill former President Mahinda Rajapaksa in 2009 were today acquitted in the case.

Journalists Daya Nettasinghe, Ravindra Pushpakumara and Shalika Wimalasena were arrested in September 2009 but were later granted bail.

The three journalists had been arrested?after they?visited a location to report on the construction of a road leading to a house of a relative of the former President.

The three journalists were arrested on the charge of conspiring to assassinate?Mahinda Rajapaksa who was President at the time.

They were later released on bail and the case continued with the judgement delivered today.

The?Morawaka Magistrates’ Court today ruled that there was no evidence to back the claims that the three journalists were conspiring to kill Rajapaksa. (Colombo Gazette)
