Tax on imported sugar, potatoes increased

The tax on imported sugar and potatoes has been increased with effect from today, the Finance Ministry said. Accordingly the commodity levy on?imported sugar has been increased by Rs. 12 per kilogram and and the levy on imported? potatoes has been increased by Rs. 10 per kilogram. Woman arrested with heroin inside chocolate

A woman was arrested at the Bandaranaike International Airport with heroin in her possession, the Customs Department said. The 58 year old woman is a resident of Mattakkuliya and was arrested by the staff of the Customs Narcotic Control unit. The authorities recovered 200g of heroin concealed in two chocolate slabs (100g x 2) valued at Rs. 2,500,000.00. Parliamentarians Malik Samarawickreme, Faiszer Musthapha and Vijith Wijayamuni Soysa took oaths as cabinet Ministers today.
