Medical faculty students withdraw from lectures in protest

Medical faculty students from eight medical faculties decided to withdraw from lectures in protest over the SAITM medical campus, Ryan Jayalath, convener of the Medical Faculty Students Committee said today.

Ryan Jayalath said that discussions are ongoing with lecturers for them to also join the protest.

Medical students have been protesting for weeks against the SAITM private university and have called for its closure.

However a court order was issued recently for the Sri Lanka Medical Council (SLMC) to recognise the medical degrees issued by SAITM. (Colombo Gazette)
