Sri Lankans less happy now, according to Happiness Report

The latest world ‘Happiness Report 2017′ has found that Sri Lankans are less happy now than they were between 2013-2015. According to the report, Sri Lanka is ranked 120 out of 155 countries between 2014-2016 with Norway at number one. In the 2016 report Sri Lanka was ranked at 117 for the years 2013-2015. Wimal’s bail application rejected by Colombo High Court

The bail application submitted by Parliamentarian Wimal Weerawansa was rejected by the Colombo High Court today. Weerawansa has been remanded over the alleged misuse of Government vehicles when he was a Minister in the former Government.

Arrest of Indian fishermen to continue despite alleged shooting

The Government says Indian fishermen will continue to be arrested if they poach in Sri Lankan waters despite the recent shooting incident. Fisheries Minister Mahinda Amaraweera said today that while Indian fishermen have been released their boats have not. He said the Government is also looking at resolving the Indo-Lanka fishing dispute in a diplomatic manner and talks will be held as scheduled next month.
