India says Sri Lanka is a valued friend and neighbour

India says Sri Lanka is a valued friend and neighbour and the friendship between both countries continues to be the strong.

The Indian Government says it will continue to extend support to the Government and people of Sri Lanka to achieve its National goals.

“Independence Day greetings to the people of Sri Lanka, a valued friend & neighbour. May Sri Lanka continue to prosper in the years to come,” Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi said in a tweet.

Meanwhile, the President of India, Shri Pranab Mukherjee also extended his greetings and felicitations to the Government and people of Sri Lanka.

The Indian President India and Sri Lanka share a unique relationship.

“The close ties of friendship between our countries have been built over centuries. The expanding scope of our wide-ranging relationship continues to be the strong foundation of our contemporary discourse,” he said.

The President said that under the renewed dynamism in the Sri Lankan polity under President Maithripala Sirisena’s leadership will help to forge a stable path for the future of Sri Lanka and further strengthen the Indo-Lanka partnership to the mutual benefit of its peoples.

“On this occasion, I would like to assure you that as a close friend and neighbour, India will continue to extend her support to the Government and people of Sri Lanka as you pursue your national goals,” he added. (Colombo Gazette)


  1. We too believed that Indian is friendly country.

    Sri Lankan are not happy with any big brothers attempted bully their people by high-hand policies of by Indian Ocean countries.

    We too want maintain our Independence in future of mutually benefits of people of Indian and Sri lanka.

    This was base on that of five principled of Govt .of Indian had been advocated since Bandung conference in 1954.
