Twenty-five further remanded over Hambantota clash

Twenty-five people were further remanded today over the clash in Hambantota recently.

The suspects were produced in court and ordered to be further remanded till February 13.

However four others were granted bail.

Several?people were injured during a tense situation in Hambantota when protesters defied a court order and staged a protest near the venue of the launch of the Sri Lanka-China Industrial Zone Development Project on January 7.

At least 27 people sought treatment at the Hambantota hospital after stones were pelted towards the police and the venue of the project and the police retaliated with water cannons and tear-gas.

135 accidents in 24hrs

The police recorded 135 road accidents around the country over the 24 hour period ending at six this morning, the police media spokesman said. According to police spokesman SP Ajith Rohana 10 people had died from road accidents during that same period.
