DS officers in Gampaha skip work in protest against Ranjan

Officers of the Gampaha District Secretariat refrained from work today in protest against Deputy Minister Ranjan Ramanayake.

Ramanayake had last week verbally abused the Divulapitiya Divisional Secretary.

Ramanayake had verbally abused Divulapitiya Divisional Secretary M.M.S Herath over an incident involving soil excavation.

Local television captured the Deputy Minister exchanging harsh words with the Divisional Secretary.

Herath later told a private television station she was ready to step down from the post as a result of the manner in which she was verbally abused. (Colombo Gazette)

Suspect injured after being shot at dies

A suspect who was shot at by the Army in the Panadura area last night when he attempted to flee, succumbed to his injuries in hospital. A van reported stolen in Mattegoda was found in Panadura yesterday. When an attempt was made to arrest the suspect he had fled and the Army opened fire. The suspect was injured in the shooting incident and was admitted to hospital. Meanwhile, another suspect was arrested over the incident.
