Ranil says MR should have retired after two terms

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe says former President Mahinda Rajapaksa should have retired after two terms in office.

He recalled that former Presidents J.R. Jayawardena and Chandrika Kumaratunga had retired after serving two terms in office yet Rajapaksa wanted to be in power for a longer period.

Wickremesinghe said that Rajapaksa threatened to overthrow the Government in January but he could not do that.

He said that the former President expected several members of the Government to take part in the joint opposition rally last week but even that never happened.

The Prime Minister said that when the current coalition Government took office Sri Lanka was in a debt trap.

He said Sri Lanka will be compelled to pay the debt till 2026. (Colombo Gazette)

  1. Correct statement. Has the Prime Minister or his office issued a statement by now on the contradictions between Rajitha and Malik on Gift to Nandana Lokuwithana. Why is PMO is reluctant. Are all three Cabinet members lying.

  2. Very good statement. Ranil lost 29 times but did not give anyone in UNP to grow as leader; no one in history is greedier than this.. If Sirisena did not contest last time, UNP will stay in opposition for ever!

  3. UNP of the Ranil W…@@@@@@ has lost political credibility and his political credential of Democracy has dead and gone for even ,after 2015 January
so-called “rainbow revolution” came into fail by after 24 months in power grid back by US and Indian political manipulation.

By take Ranil W.. retired politics give young UNPs come power in future. That is only that survival of Democracy can review by new set of policies of Capitalist democracy.

Ranil W..is feudal leader of OLD UNP’s ,that all his policies are outdated.
