An attempt to save the lives of both elephants and people by moving the pachyderms away from humans has failed in Sri Lanka, a new study finds. Budget for 2013 passed in parliament

The budget for 2013 was passed in parliament this evening with a majority. During the vote on the third and final reading of the budget 158 members voted in favor and 57 against it. The opposition UNP, DNA and TNA voted against the budget proposals.

Tri-lingual human rights action plan goes online

The government has made available the National Human Rights Action Plan in all three languages online, officials said today. The action plan covers a wide area including Civil and Political Rights, Economic Social and Cultural Rights, Prevention of Torture, Rights of Women, Labour Rights, Migrant Workers, Children and Internally Displaced Persons (IDP).
